Home: Beyond Physical Boundaries

Image
Home is often thought of as a physical structure, a place where you reside or come back to after a long day. It is where we seek solace, comfort, and familiarity. However, sometimes the four walls surrounding us do not define home. Sometimes home expands beyond the boundaries of a mere house and transcends into a mental state, a state of peace, tranquillity, love, and understanding. Amidst the chaos of our lives, we all crave that sanctuary, that place of solace where our spirits can find respite. It is not uncommon to discover this sense of home in unexpected corners of our lives. It could be within the walls of our workplace, where the bustle of daily tasks and interactions unveil hidden understanding and camaraderie. It could be hidden amongst the shelves of our shop, where the serenity of pursuing our passions instills a sense of belonging and purpose. These places become our havens, where we find ourselves at ease, where the worries of the world fade away. Yet, it is the people wh...

Seeking Genuine Hearts

Image
In a world that often seems overrun with wickedness, it can be disheartening and easy to lose faith in humanity. The headlines are filled with stories of greed, deceit, and selfishness, leaving little room for hope. However, amidst all the chaos, if we pay attention and look closely, we can find genuine people - heartfelt individuals who truly care. It's easy to become disillusioned and believe that everyone has ulterior motives, that kindness and compassion have become scarce commodities. But if we pause and reflect, we can remember those instances when a stranger went out of their way to help us or a friend who consistently supports and uplifts us without expecting anything in return. These are the moments that reignite our faith in mankind. Despite the evil and negativity that sometimes seem all-encompassing, there are still authentic souls fighting against the tide. They may not make the headlines or receive the recognition they deserve, but their impact on our lives is immeasu...

Attain Mental Peace!

Image
Written by Hadiza Babakatcha  Happiness and attitude towards attaining peace of mind.  Many a time, we attach happiness to people or things. Alas, happiness is found within and not around you... This is a lesson some people learned the hard way while to some, it takes a lifetime to realise this. Credit Google   A poet & writer of Liberal views, Edward Jerningham aptly said, to be happy you must be your own sunshine. Again, an American actress Julia Roberts noted that one of the first steps to happiness is deciding that you want to be happy and knowing what that means. To be happy is a choice you make every day, every hour, refining and renewing that state is a constant pursuit. I have learnt that it is not what people say to you, or what people think about you that shapes your happiness or attitude which determines your state of mind at any given moment or situation. Rather it is what you say to yourself because the strongest and the most destructive voice is your own...

We are yet to get it right.

Image
By Hadiza Babakatcha  Every family is paying or has paid the Supreme tax to the negligence and failure of those we chose as leaders.  Photo credit_Google Every household in Nigeria, I mean the ordinary Nigerians, who can not afford to send their loved ones abroad, have paid heavily to insecurity, bad road, dilapidated health facilities, power failure, unavailability of potable water and the list continues... How do I describe our dear country Nigeria? What role are you playing in Nigeria? Are you in a driver's seat? Or are you a passenger? How has been the journey in the last ten years? What role have you been playing? Have you just been hanging around surviving and complaining? I understand, some times we feel hopeless and lost, and we ask questions, Yet, there are no answers, this makes us feel like victims in our own fathers' land. The situation is deteriorating in my opinion. Men argue it every day, they lament the situation, the pitiful circumstance we are in, as Nigerian...

The Strings Of a Woman

Image
Written by Hadiza Babakatcha   How do we say what we have in mind, when most people especially our dear loved ones are only waiting to judge and cast blames on us?  Photo credit_Google   Why is the world so cruel, that those whose love we yearn for are always the ones who hurt us the most? What did we do to life to be treated with so much distress and minority mindset? She is a woman, she has no life without a man, what did we do wrong? Where did we miss it? Because she is a woman she can't mount to nothing because she is a daughter, a mother and somebody's wife?  Such talks lingers on the lips of outsiders, but demoralises and break every bone in us when it comes from those we cherish, and expect to draw strength from.  Because she is a girl, her life means nothing without a man, what did we do wrong? This African mentality has eroded and eaten so deep in our homes, even mothers who are supposed to cheer their female children to aim for the sky are the o...

Blessings; A girl child

Image
A world without a girl, is as impossible as a world without water. Photo credit_Google . There is no gainsaying that water is important to our everyday life, it is key to our survival. Such is a girl child to nature, she is a blessing to her parents and the larger community.  In our contemporary society, most girls grow up with so many invisible strings pulling them from different directions which over time make up a mindset for most girls. In Africa, when a woman gives birth, the first question mostly asked is, "Is he a boy?" Only a few add girl to the question. Well, that depicts the value placed on the female gender. Cultural belief has painted the impression that the existence of a generation is hinged on the shoulder of a man. Alas! On the flip side of the coin, without the female gender, this can not be achieved. Also, without her, procreation will hit a firm resistance. So, female gender can be likened to water which turns the dry land into a productive one. Though, so...

Your Child: A perpetrator or a victim?

Image
Are you a parent or guardian? Do you criticize your child more than you praise him? Are you always angry when supervising his home work or chores? Do you shout or slap or maybe spank the child, because his not meeting up to your expectations?  Take it easy. Having a high expectation of your child is normal, placing a child under pressure, or beating him for making mistakes would not yield the results you want.   A researcher at the University of Pretoria, Centre for child law, Isabel Magaya said, when children are exposed to violence in the home, there’s a high possibility for a boy when he grows up, to become a perpetrator and for a girl when she grows up, to become a victim. Isabel Magaya.  Photo credit_Google  Some parents because they expects perfection from their child pushes and abuses the child verbally and physically. They call the child rubbish and all sorts of downgrading names, makes the child feel shameful and unworthy for not meeting up to their ex...

Low self esteem and depression in children, parents to be blamed?

Image
Perfection is God's business, we are human.  Perfection does not exist in reality. No one is perfect, nothing is perfect. Perfection is merely a man's illusion, it simply doesn't exist in the universe. The man whom is regarded as the most brilliant theoretical physicist in history, Stephen Hawking said, One of the basic rules of universe is that nothing is perfect. Perfection simply doesn't exist... without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist. Imperfection, they say is beauty, it is better to be ridiculous than to be boring. An American novelist and a nonfiction writer, Anne Lamott said, perfection is shallow, unreal and fatally uninteresting. Again, according to An American computer scientist, Jaron Lanier, seeking perfection in human affairs is a perfect way to destroy them.  In the world today, some parents place unnecessary pressure on their children, because they expects perfection from them. Having a high expectation of your child is normal and can be hel...

The area where our house is located is mostly quiet, although not a government reserved area. I think, it was because that area, was a new layout as at then, no many buildings nor familiarities with neighbours. I remembered, whenever it's that time of the ...
